Local resident Helen Gienger and Tillamook County Creamery Association donate $400,000 to project
The Partners building, located on Third Street adjacent to the IOOF Pioneer Cemetery and across from the Tillamook County Fairgrounds, will be the new home for Oregon State University Extension, OSU Open Campus, provide the classroom space for TBCC’s Agriculture and Natural Resources degree program and have offices for Tillamook County Economic Development, Tillamook County Small Business Development Center and Visit Tillamook Coast. Construction is scheduled to begin later this year.TILLAMOOK, Ore. – The rain didn’t stop the celebration on Tuesday, Sept. 15 when the Tillamook Bay Community College Board of Educators and President Connie Green met with local partners, donors, local and state officials and community members to break ground on the new Partners for Rural Innovation Center.
“This is about all of our futures,” said TBCC President Connie Green. “From our children to the adults in our community, this partnership is about helping them access a clear path to learning valuable life skills, getting business training, earning a college degree and realizing their potential for success.”
The Partners building is a $4.3 million project that is more than 80 percent funded. Recently, long-time community resident Helen Gienger pledged to give $200,000 towards the project in the form of a community match.
“Helen wants to see others who believe in supporting efforts to build a stronger, more viable community come forward and give to this project that is near and dear to her own heart,” Green said. “We are so thankful to Helen for her generosity and enthusiasm as we move forward.”
In response to Helen Gienger’s donation, the Tillamook County Creamery Association has stepped up to the plate with a $200,000 match. In addition, the college has secured $250,000 in grants.
“We only have $650,000 left to go,” noted TBCC Board Chair Deborah Lincoln. “It’s been exciting to see the community embrace this project and recognize the need we have to create this shared learning center for our community.”
